Paul Lukas (May 26, 1895 - August 15, 1971) was a Hungarian actor. Born Pál Lukács within Budapest, he arrived in Hollywood in 1927 after a successful stage & film career within Hungary, Germany and Austria where he worked with Max Reinhardt. He processed his stage debut around Budapest inside 1916 & film debut within 1917. At the start, he played elegant, smooth womaniser, however more and more he became typecast as a villain. Around 1933, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He was super occupy in the 1930s, but his major role come inside 1943's Watch on the Rhine, when he played a human working against the Nazis (he had played a equivalent role in Broadway in 1941). He won a Academy Award for Best Actor for the role.
In the Forties, Lukas was the charter member of the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of Western Ideas, the conservativist lobbying class action opposed to alleged Communist influence in Hollywood.
A remainder of his career moved from either Hollywood to the stage to television. He died around Tangier, Morocco.
Lukas has the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6841 Hollywood Blvd.
